YES, you can take the Driving Test at Houston Area Driving Schools instead of testing at the Texas Department of Public Safety. This means that you can avoid the long wait for a driving test at the TDPS.

YOU QUALIFY TO TAKE A ROAD TEST IF:

You are between the ages of 16 to 18

Must have a valid permit and have held permit for a minimum of 6 months.

Must have completed an approved Teen Driver Education Program (32 Classroom hours and 14 In/Car hours of instruction).

Must have a DE-964 (Commercial Driving School) and/or PT-964 (Parent Taught)

Watch 2 hour ITTD video and have valid completion certificate (expires 90 days after date of issue). CLICK HERE TO REGISTER TO WATCH VIDEO

You must complete 32 hours of Classroom Driver Education and 14 hours of In Car instruction (A certificate of completion form DE-964 or PT DE-964 is required).

We can administer the driving test no matter where you took driver education, Houston Area Driving Schools, parent taught, on-line, another commercial driving school.

WE MUST HAVE THE COMPLETION CERTIFICATE (DE-964 and/or PT -964 for Teen Course TO ADMINISTER THE DRIVING TEST. (Unless it was scanned into the system and retained by the Texas Department of Public Safety)

You must watch a two (2) hour video, Impact Texas Teen Drivers (ITTD). After watching the ITTD, you need to print the certificate of completion and bring with you at the time of DPS road test.

(For the Teen Test, you must have held a valid Texas Learner's Permit for at least 6 Months, check the back of your permit to verify the date you must hold permit until.

ROAD TEST INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

Use of Houston Area Driving Schools vehicle for testing

Test criteria provided to applicant prior to administration of the test.

Upon completion of the driving test, the examiner will tell the applicant of any errors made during the driving test and advise the applicant how to correct those errors.

Retest #2 Will be $50.00

$30.00 Rescheduling Fee if applicant comes for DPS Road Test without completed paperwork or if applicant needs to reschedule original road test appointment to another day and time.
